“For 90 minutes each month, Teleconference Network members have access to some of the most brilliant minds in real estate investing, marketing, business, and more,” says Erika Villamizar, Wealth Intelligence Academy®'s teleconference manager. “They get to hear what these proven experts have to say, ask questions, and also hear about the issues their peers are dealing with.”
Topics discussed on the calls include foreclosure, creative financing, wholesale investing, asset protection, credit, and more. Occasionally, instead of a defined topic, Villamizar assembles a panel for a freewheeling question and answer session. Students say the program is energizing and inspiring.
One student had been going through some difficult times. In addition to some business challenges, her youngest son was wounded in Baghdad and her husband hurt his back and went on short-term disability. When she listened to the teleconference on wholesaling, she was reminded of some techniques she learned in class and heard some additional information. Motivated from the call, she placed 20 contracts on properties sight unseen. The results? “We backed out of some of the deals we didn't want, purchased three properties we did want, and wholesaled the rest. We leased one immediately, rehabbed the second and moved into it, and we'll flip the other for a projected profit of $20,000-$25,000,” she reports.
Her son's injury was not life-threatening and he is on his way home, her husband is recovering, the business challenges have worked out, and her real estate investing is riding a wave of momentum that might not have happened without the teleconference.
More than just a phone call: How the program works
Students are advised of the topic in advance and encouraged to send in questions ahead of time. “If we have the question ahead of time, we make sure the speakers address it before we open the session to live questions,” Villamizar says. “We welcome questions that are general as well as questions about specific deals the students are working on.”
After each teleconference, students receive an audio recording on CD via regular mail plus a written transcript via e-mail of the call. “If you were on the call, this lets you review the material in the way most comfortable for you, either listening or reading,” Villamizar says. “If you were not able to listen to the live call, this gives you all the information so you don't miss anything.” In addition, members receive monthly updates via e-mail on various investing-related topics.
Students report that the Teleconference Network is an excellent supplement to their mentor and/or coach. “The mentors and the coaches are extremely valuable and important to the education process, but they are relatively short-term,” Villamizar says. “The Teleconference Network builds on that foundation over a long-term period. Students are able to enhance what they learned from their mentors and coaches and continue to grow in their knowledge and skills over a period of years. This program gives them one more resource they can turn to when they need help.”
Teleconference calls are typically scheduled on a weekday at 3:00 p.m. Eastern to accommodate both speakers and members in multiple time zones. Members can call in toll-free from any location. If they are not able to call in or are not able to listen to the entire teleconference, they will have an audio CD of the session within 14 days so that they can listen to what they missed and start their own teleconference audio collection. The written transcript is delivered the following month via e-mail with the next conference reminder.
